Mahakam River can be accessed via Balipapan and Samarinda Airport and then continue with river transportation to go deeper further to the jungle and dayak tribe hamlet. This trip is mix of Dayak culture experience with wildlife exploration. Along the cruise you will see birds, proboscis monkey and great chance of meeting the jumping dolphin.
Day 1: BALIKPAPAN/ SAMARINDA-MAHAKAM (L,D)
We can pick up at your arrival point : Balikpapan Airport or Samarinda Airport. And then drive about 2 hours to Loa Janan harbor. Transfer to Klotok Houseboat. Overnight and meals at Klotok Houseboat
Day 2: MUARA MUNTAI-MANCONG-TANJUNG ISUY- MUARA PAHU (B,L,D)
Stop by at Muara Muntai for village sightseeing and then crossing Lake Jempang by motorized canoe to Mancong. Along the cruise you can view the forest and wildlife at Ohong Creek such as birds and monkeys. Arrival at Mancong, Dayak Benua tribe will welcome you with traditional ceremony. The longhouse of the tribe is one of the oldest in East Kalimantan. Late afternoon. take motorized canoe to Tanjung Isuy for sightseeing and cruise upstream by klotok houseboat to Muara Pahu to dock. Overnight : Klotok Houseboat
Day 03: MUARA PAHU-KEDANG PAHU RIVER- MOUNT BAYAN-TERBISAK- DOWNSTREAM (BLD)
From Muara Pahu, cruise further upstream to Kedang Pahu River by motorized canoe for approximately 1 hour and Mount Bayan to visit Terbisak Dayak hamlet to see the longhouse of Benauq Dayak Tribe which is inhabited by about 100 people, as also seeing the tradition farming and hunting. Canoe cruising downstream while you can enjoy wildlife and vegetation at the river banks. Reaching the delta of black water Bolowan River, when you are lucky you can spot fresh water dolphin in the meeting stream of Kedang Pahu and Bolowan River. Return to Klotok Houseboat and sail downstream to Tenggarong. Overnight on Klotok Houseboat
Day 4: TENGGARONG-BALIKPAPAN (B,L)
Upon arrival at Tenggarong and then visit the the former palace of Sultan Kertanegara Palace where displayed various historical collections including Dayak art. And then transfer to Balikpapan Airport/Hotel. End of service.
ABOUT THE ACCOMMODATION: KLOTOK HOUSEBOAT
Because there is no proper lodging available in Mahakam River area, you will be cruising on Klokok Houseboat. It has air conditioning cabin yet only cold shower available. The houseboat sails slowly that makes you have abundance of chances to take photo along the trip for capturing wildlife.
