Berau has large population of Orangutan in Kalimantan Island. It is rich of flora and fauna biodiversity. And Berau is also where visitors can see indigenous Dayak Tribe with their custom and tradition. Dayak tribe daily activities are: collecting honey bee, fishing, hunting and farming. Dayak Tribe also collect gaharu (agarwood) oud oil. Dayak Tribe traditional house is long house, where River connects the villages of Dayak tribe with the outside world and boat is the only means of transportation.
Berau is situated right in front of beautiful Derawan Islands, where Bajau Tribe live. Derawan is famous for its mesmerizing places such as: Kakaban Jellyfish Lake, Sangalaki Island Turtle Beach, and Maratua Island.

Dayak Tribe and Orangutan Tour 2 Days 1 Nights
Day 1: BERAU -MERASA HAMLET (D)
Arrival at Berau Airport, you will be greeted by guide, and then drive approximately 2 hours to Merasa Dayak Tribe which is located at Lesan River. Here you can observe Dayak culture. Dinner is served at local restaurant. Overnight at Merasa Guesthouse.
Day 02: MERASA-ORANGUTAN JUNGLE TREK- BENUA BARU DAYAK VILLAGE- BERAU (B,L)
After simple breakfast at guesthouse and then sail upstream for approximately 2 hours through Lesan River. During sailing you can observe the scenery of river banks filled with lush lowland vegetation and dark Kalimantan jungle. Often some wildlife like otters, monkeys and birds can be spotted as well during the river cruising. Arrival at Pulau Bawan, the orangutan island at Lesan River, you will do jungle trek, whenever possible you can visit waterfall, Dayak Tribe grave and limestone cave.Before noon, return to Merasa Village and then drive about 1 hour to Banua Dayak Kayan Hamlet to learn about The Dayak Longhouse Culture and Arts of Banua Baru which has beautiful and eye catching design adopt the geometrical shape from local flora and fauna depicted in wooden statues. Dayak women has long ear and tattoo, and this culture slowly faded in modern era. Drive to Berau and transfer to airport or harbor. End of service.
