Balikpapan : Orangutan, Suspension Bridge, Proboscis Monkey Day Tour

OVERVIEW:
This trip is suitable if you have limited time in Balikpapan yet want to see yourself the indigenous wildlife of Kalimantan:Orangutan and Proboscis Monkey. The tour is a full day tour to match the orangutan feeding time at Samboja , at 08.00 and Proboscis Monkey onservation. Proboscis Monkey is active and can be seen easily early morning and late afternoon as they do not like sun during daytime.

ITINERARY:
You will be picked up at 06.15 AM at your hotel in Balikpapan and then transfer about 70 Mins to Samboja. Upon arrival Samboja you will register and then read and sign the rules for orangutan observation. About 08.00, guide will take you for man made island. You will start orangutan observation at the man made island where rescued orangutans live. During the feeding time about 09.00, a staff will ride small boat full of fruits to be given to orangutans. Afterwards drive to Sun Bear sanctuary, the home of about 75 sun bears. Visit the tower of Samboja, where you can see the panorama of vast man made green jungle. And then proceed with planting tree to contribute to the forestation in the area. After lunch, drive to about 30 mins to Bengkirai Hill where you will trek about 20 mins through secondary forest. Walk through suspension bridge where you can see the panorama of the surrounding as well challenge your adrenalin walking through this 25 meters high bridge. Drive to Mangrove forest, at 17.00 and sail by motorized boat. You will get mesmerized by the vast mangrove forest. In the middle of the forest the boat driver will shut down the engine and this will make you hear the sound of the jungle. Sail further to where the proboscis monkey, the endemic monkey of Kalimantan Island, often seen enjoying late afternoon with their family. Return to Balikpapan. Arrival Balikpapan about 19.30
